Session Finder
Trackingplan’s Session Finder lets you search and inspect real user sessions based on specific conditions and timeframes, allowing you to validate and identify gaps in your tracking setup based on real-world user behavior.
In contrast to other tools that employ synthetic data or simulated user scenarios with static paths, Trackingplan collects navigation sessions from users visiting your sites and apps in real-time.
This enables deep investigation into how events were tracked— what events were triggered, in which order, which pixels were fired, and whether any tracking issues occurred.
As a result, Trackingplan’s Session Finder helps you build a reliable and accurate data map of the user journey, exactly as it happened across all your analytics and marketing platforms.
Let’s explore some practical use cases with examples:
Filter sessions based on event conditions
Search for sessions that include, exclude, or follow a specific sequence of events.
For example:
- Sessions that include a
purchase
event in any of your providers, so you can build a complete data map of what each of your analytics and marketing platforms captured. - Sessions where a user triggered
view_item
→add_to_cart
→purchase
in that specific order.
Combine multiple conditions
You can also add multiple filters using AND logic to find tracking issues and inconsistencies.
- Sessions that contain an
add_to_cart
inGA4
but not inMeta
.
Reviewing Sessions
Once you've applied your filters, you'll get a list of sessions that match your criteria. Click on any session to dive into a real user journey and:
- Inspect every track associated with a session (raw and parsed payloads and DataLayer): Verify that all required events, parameters, and metadata were captured accurately throughout the session.
- Identify spec mismatches or missing events: Detect sessions where key events are not firing.
- Investigate broken funnels: Spot sessions that reached critical pages (like the thank you page) but are missing essential conversion events (purchase).
- Cross-platform debugging: Compare how the same session was tracked across GA4, Meta, TikTok, and other platforms to identify inconsistencies.
- Explore real user behavior step by step: No synthetic data or simulated flows — Trackingplan’s Session Finder shows exactly what a real user did and how your MarTech stack captured it.
